With money getting tighter, many Britons have been searching for additional income streams to help stay afloat. Research shows around 25 percent of UK workers currently have a side hustle and with many different lucrative but “easily accessible” options to choose from, it’s not hard to see why.
Recent research by tax specialists RIFT Tax Refunds found that London is home to the highest number of people who currently have a side hustle to help combat the cost of living crisis, with the average side hustler in the UK boosting their earnings by almost £4,000 with the help of this secondary income.
The research found an estimated 13.7 million people clock an average of six to 15 additional hours of work a week to help make ends meet, with London (2.1 million), the South East (two million), and North West (1.4 million) home to the highest number of side hustlers when splitting the UK by region.
Experts at Spamzilla commented: “Surprisingly, some of the most accessible side hustles involve blogging and online domains, and they have the potential to make you a very high profit if done right.”
Blogging – £200 to £1,000 per month
Blogging has boomed in recent years, and it’s proving to be a great starter side hustle that anyone can try.
Whether people are sharing their opinions, reviewing products, or writing guides on a specific hobby or topic, setting up an online blog can be a good way to earn some extra cash.
Spamzilla experts said: “In the UK, there’s a growing demand for online content, and many bloggers have found success in various niches such as travel, lifestyle, beauty, personal finance, and food.”
But, they said one way to monetise the blog is through advertising and sponsored content.

Spamzilla experts explained: “You can earn money by displaying ads on your blog or partnering with brands and promoting their products or services to your audience. Another way to generate income is by creating and selling digital products such as ebooks, courses, or printables related to your niche.
“If your blog gets more popular, you can earn passive income through affiliate networks, display advertising, and sponsorship deals. According to a survey, 16 percent of bloggers earned less than £200 per month, while eight percent earned between £1,500 to £2,000 per month. The rest earned between £200 to £1,000 per month.”
Buying and flipping online domains – £100 to £5,000
While one of the more popular side hustles is owning and running a website, typically by first buying an expired domain, many people choose to then flip this domain for profit rather than use it for blogging.
Spamzilla experts explained: “Think of it like buying a run-down house, you buy the website for cheap, do it up a bit, and then sell it for a profit. When set up correctly, an expired domain may be a great way for you to earn some passive income quickly and easily.
“Typically, people make anything from £100 to £5,000 by flipping domains, but profits can be much higher.”
According to Spamzillio, some choose to hold onto their domains for a long time to increase their returns, while others prefer to generate profit quickly, often within just a few weeks or months.
Spamzillio experts said: “Starting domain-flipping is very cheap, with some domains costing just 99p per year. Apart from this expenditure, all you need is a computer and a reliable internet connection, making domain flipping a business opportunity that is both low-risk and easily accessible.”
People can look for expired domains to buy on domain marketplaces, like Spamzilla, to then move on and monetise them.
Spamzilla experts said: “Look for domains that are relevant to your interests or areas of expertise.”
Once a domain has been established, Spamzilla experts suggested: “You’ll want to work out the value of the domain to see if you can sell it for a profit. You can use online tools like EstiBot to get an estimate of the domain’s value.”
People can then start making money from it by selling it, or even building a website and generating revenue through advertising and affiliate marketing.
