Having lived in Windsor for more than a year, and visited for the last 20 years, it’s easy to see why the historic market town is so popular and why people travel all over the world to visit.
Windsor is situated in Berkshire, bordering Slough and Maidenhead, just 21.8 miles from Charing Cross and 15.8 miles from Reading.
It is immediately south of the River Thames, which forms its boundary with its smaller twin town of Eton, known for Eton College.
Although Windsor Castle has made the town famous, there are plenty of other reasons why people choose to move to the town.
The transport links are great, with two train stations in the centre of town and Slough not too far up the road. There are also several buses connecting Berkshire with London.

Commuters can travel from Windsor & Eton Central Station to London Paddington in as little as an hour, or from Windsor & Eton Riverside in just over an hour, both stations offering regular trains.
Windsor is home to top schools, well-preserved historic homes, a thriving high street, and plenty of restaurants to choose from.
Some of the nation’s finest schools can be found in the town including St George’s School and Upton House to name a couple.
The castle is also a huge reason why many people visit the town whether visiting inside or viewing from the outside.

It costs anywhere between £28 and £30 for an adult to visit inside the castle, although residents do get this for free with their resident card.
I also love the amount of open and green space there is, thanks to Windsor Great Park, which is 2,020 hectares.
Residents and visitors can walk around forests, and lakes, and explore The Long Walk, which offers magnificent views of Windsor Castle.
However, living in the town doesn’t come cheap with the average house price currently standing at £653,584 over the last year, according to Rightmove.
The majority of sales in Windsor over the last year were semi-detached properties, selling for an average of £635,718. Terraced homes sold for an average of £609,074, while flats fetched £381,183.
Overall, sold prices in the Berkshire town over the last year were similar to the previous year and five percent up on the 2020 peak of £623,031.
There are currently nearly 400 homes for sale at the time of writing in Windsor and the surrounding areas including Old Windsor and Dedworth.
There’s a huge array of homes on the market including a £4.2million Grade II listed residence as well as some new build homes.
Comparing this to the rental market, there are currently 209 properties available to rent on Rightmove’s website in Windsor and the surrounding areas. These are mainly flats but some houses can be rented for a whopping £2,000 to £3,000 a month.
Overall, Windsor is a gorgeous town to live in despite it getting busy during peak season and I wouldn’t want to live anywhere else.
