AN expert mechanic has revealed three reasons why EV sales are plummeting while hybrid cars are on the up.

Scotty Kilmer took to his YouTube channel to explain why dropping demand for all-electric models has forced manufacturers to pivot.


Scotty labelled the push towards EV sales a "dismal failure" and claimed that a lack of interest from customers has meant that hybrid tech is making a comeback.

He said: "Everybody poo-pooed Toyota…even though they started the Prius which was the hybrid revolution.

"Toyota to this day are saying 'hybrids make more sense'.

"You use less lithium, you can save the planet better making hybrids.

"Well now [Ford CEO] Jim Farley is saying the same thing.

"You've got to look at it and laugh."

He also pointed to declining sales in China, previously a hotspot for electric car ownership, as people are "finding out" about the issues with EVs.

Scotty claimed that manufacturers were leaping "into the abyss" as they have already invested too much in EV production to "admit they screwed up" and abandon the projects.

Instead, he added that they are now having to focus on hybrids to keep sales steady while also trying to push electric cars as the future.

Social media commenters were quick to agree.

One wrote: "Turns out asking people to buy insanely overpriced grocery getters after causing global inflation crisis wasn't such a good idea."

Another added: "No one seems to address the fact that these electric vehicles are financially out of reach to the average family."

It comes after Scotty revealed why pricey specialist EV tyres just aren't worth it.

Meanwhile, the owner of an electric truck explained the "major issues" that left him hating his own motor.
