NS&I has announced the December winners for the prize draw, with the two jackpot winners this month from the Scottish Highlands and Wandsworth in London. Many other Bond holders have won large prizes, with two people bagging £100,000 each while 36 people have won £50,000.
A person can check if they have won a prize in December’s prize draw by using the prize checker on the group’s website, via the app or using an Alexa device.
Customers checking online or via the app will need to provide their NS&I number or holder’s number to check via the prize checker app.
People can also check for any previously unclaimed prizes that they have yet to collect at the same time.
In the December draw, the winning Bond number for the Scottish Highlands jackpot winner is 414XW486235, who holds £45,000 in Bonds, and purchased their winning Bond in September 2020.
They are the first jackpot winner from the Scottish Highlands, while the Wandsworth winner is the second person from the London borough to bag £1million.
The lucky Londoner holds Bond number 159FZ477948 and holds £29,042 in Premium Bonds, and they purchased their winning Bond in August 2009.
Jill Waters, NS&I Retail Director, said: “A massive congratulations to our two Premium Bonds jackpot winners from the Scottish Highlands and Wandsworth – their win has come just in time to make this Christmas an extra special one.
“With over 4.9 million prizes up for grabs this month, worth nearly £219 million, Premium Bonds holders up and down the country will be getting a fantastic early Christmas present from ERNIE ahead of the festivities kicking off.
“This Christmas, you can also give the gift of Premium Bonds to children and help kick start a healthy savings habit from just £25.”
It’s definitely worth checking to see if a person has won a prize, as this month a total of 4,977,130 prizes worth £218,993,750 are being paid out.
Premium Bond holders are put into the monthly prize draw rather than being paid interest on their Bonds.
Winners have the option to purchase more Bonds with their winnings, increasing their chances of bagging another prize.
Each Bond number, whether it has eight, nine, ten or eleven digits, has an equal chance of winning a prize, NS&I claims.
Millions of Premium Bond prizes are still unclaimed with more than 1,500 of them worth £1,000 or more.
This includes five prizes worth £100,000 and nine worth £50,000, according to research from MoneySavingExpert.
Winners of 11 prizes worth £25,000 have also yet to collect their money, while 37 prizes for £10,000 have still not been claimed, along with 69 prizes worth £5,000.
People are also missing out on 1,500 prizes for £1,000 while more than 4,700 prizes worth £500 have yet to be claimed.
In the Scottish Highlands, there are 6,259 unclaimed prizes worth £198,450, with the oldest from the September 1969 draw, with one unclaimed prize for £1,000.
Bond holders in Wandsworth are missing out on 20,622 unclaimed prizes, worth a total of £698,600.
The largest prize from the south London borough is £5,000 and is from the December 1977 prize draw.
