As the weather cools down, many people will be switching their heating on to warm up.

However, with the cost of living crisis continuing, it is likely Britons will be looking for ways to cut their energy bills.

Rather than wearing thick jumpers and investing in a warmer duvet, there are a number of radiator tricks that could help keep costs down, according to British Gas engineer Sunny Solanky.

By now, many people will have heard of this trick and it does work. According to Sunny, homeowners could save £25 a year by fitting radiator foil or tin foil behind their radiators.

Rather than hot air being blown at the wall, the foil will reflect it which means homeowners should waste less energy and therefore save money.

If your radiator has cold spots then it has pockets of trapped air inside which means it needs bleeding.

The air pockets prevent the heated water from circulating. Allowing the trapped air to be released is a free, simple way to make your radiators work more efficiently.

Don’t miss… Heating all the rooms up in a house is a complete waste of energy and therefore money.

Instead, simply heat up the rooms you need. Sunny added: “It’s important not to spend money heating spare rooms or other rooms not in use during the winter.

“So if you know a room isn’t going to be used then make sure you turn the radiator off and close the door to stop cold air circulating through the rest of the house.”

Sofas, chairs, tables and other furniture placed against a radiator will block hit our from circulating around the property which will make a home feel colder.

Martin Lewis finally explains the best way to use your heating
