<\/p>\nTHERE are many different types of speed cameras you may encounter on roads in the UK.<\/p>\n
One of the 18 kinds of traffic enforcement cameras is mobile speed cameras, which are used in roaming vans and can spot dangerous drivers on the move.<\/p>\n
<\/p>\n
The majority of mobile speed cameras are run by local police forces.<\/p>\n
They tend to be found on stretches of road where there has been a history of road traffic incidents, normally over a three year or more period.<\/p>\n
Mobile speed cameras can be found in marked or unmarked cars.<\/p>\n
They are also sometimes manually operated by police officers using radar guns and laser guns.<\/p>\n
There are several ways you can find the locations of mobile speed cameras.<\/p>\n There are a number of apps you can download that claim to be able to track speed cameras.<\/p>\n Some examples are Radarbot, Waze and RadarAll.<\/p>\n Some drivers also like to use speed camera detectors.<\/p>\n <\/span><\/p>\n <\/span><\/p>\n <\/span><\/p>\n <\/span><\/p>\n These are devices that you mount on your dashboard to alert you to fixed speed cameras.\u00a0<\/p>\n Some detectors do alert you to mobile cameras as well.<\/p>\n Of course, the best way to avoid having to worry about any type of speed cameras is to stick to the speed limit.<\/p>\n The Association of Chief Police Officers does allow a tolerance of\u00a010 percent plus 2 mph on speeding.<\/p>\n Mobile speed cameras often do not alert drivers that they have been caught with a flash.<\/p>\n This is to encourage more accurate results as drivers remain unaware that they have been monitored.<\/p>\n Many other kinds of cameras, such as red light cameras, will use a visible flash when capturing images of vehicles breaking the rules.<\/p>\n Mobile speed cameras, meanwhile, use specialised sensors or infrared technology.<\/p>\n It can take up to 14 days for a ticket from a mobile speed camera to come through.<\/p>\n If your car has been caught speeding, you will be notified via post.<\/p>\n A Notice of Intended Prosecution (NIP) and a Section 172\u00a0will be posted to the vehicle's registered address.<\/p>\n Once that has arrived, you have 28 days to fill out the Section 172 Notice and send it back.<\/p>\n In the Section 172 you must tell the police who was driving the car.<\/p>\n You will then be sent a Fixed Penalty Notice within 14 days.<\/p>\n According to the government website, you may have to go to court if you ignore the notice.<\/p>\n The minimum penalty for speeding is a \u00a3100 fine and three penalty points added to your licence.<\/p>\n You may be given the option to attend a speed awareness course.<\/p>\n This can happen if the police decide it\u2019s appropriate for your offence, and you have not been on a speed awareness course in the past three years.<\/p>\n If you plead not guilty to a speeding offence you will have to go to court and you could end up being fined more and get more penalty points.<\/p>\n The fine depends on what the speed limit was, and how much over it you were caught driving.<\/p>\n Yes, mobile speed cameras are designed to cover both lanes of traffic.<\/p>\n The camera can only capture one car at a time but the technology is so fast that both directions can be covered at once.<\/p>\n![](\"https:\/\/www.thesun.co.uk\/wp-content\/uploads\/2023\/10\/2023-ulez-camera-harefield-sticker-849267708.jpg\")
