<\/p>\nAN amazing 10p kitchen essential can double as both a de-icer and de-mister for your windscreen – but there is a downside.<\/p>\n
You need never miss the school run again with the handy hack that can clear your view in moments.<\/p>\n

Experts from LeaseCar revealed the trick, which makes use of a cheap storecupboard item.<\/p>\n
All you need is a few teaspoons of coffee powder to beat the cold, wet weather.<\/p>\n
Tim Alcock, the spokesperson for LeaseCar, explained that coffee can be used similarly to salt to bust the ice.<\/p>\n
He told The Express: "Coffee can double up as a de-icer.\u00a0<\/p>\n
"The dark colour of coffee grains can absorb sunlight and naturally helps to melt the ice.\u00a0<\/p>\n "The texture of the grounds is also similar to salt with similar traction properties to help deal with icy surfaces."<\/p>\n And the team over at Karcher added that the everyday product could be used as a de-mister too.<\/p>\n They said: "Too much moisture inside the car not only means fogged up windows but could also result in the windshield freezing from the inside.<\/p>\n <\/span><\/p>\n <\/span><\/p>\n <\/span><\/p>\n <\/span><\/p>\n "To remedy this there are dehumidifiers available, however, even old socks filled with rice, salt, coffee powder, or cat litter, which can be placed in the footwell of the car, can help to absorb some of the moisture."<\/p>\n The tip could even save you thousands as driving with a misted or iced-up windscreen can attract hefty fines.<\/p>\n Any obstruction to your view could see you nicked for not being in "full control" of your vehicle as required by the Highway Code.<\/p>\n This is a similar offense to driving while using a mobile phone and can see you fined up to \u00a31,000 and given six licence points.<\/p>\n Even less serious cases can still attract a \u00a3200 penalty and three points.<\/p>\n However, Tim was quick to point out one potential drawback with the method.<\/p>\n He explained: "Motorists should note that this process will naturally take longer [than other de-icing tricks], and probably isn\u2019t the best solution for those in a rush."<\/p>\n It comes after drivers were amazed to discover a lifesaving button hidden on their rear-view mirror.<\/p>\n Meanwhile, we gave readers a look inside pop star Pink's amazing motorcycle collection – including a very modest runaround.<\/p>\n![](\"https:\/\/www.thesun.co.uk\/wp-content\/uploads\/2023\/12\/2019-research-rac-traffic-information-548175999.jpg\")
